Summersville Lake
Summersville Lake is the third of three lakes built by the Army Corps of Engineers to help reduce flood waters, maintain dependable stream flow, provide recreation opportunities and enhance fish and wildlife habitat in the 12,300 mile Kanawha River Basin.Country Road Cabins is located just minutes from Summersville Lake in Hico West Virginia and is situated in a private wooded setting. Our Central location puts you within easy reach of the lake - along with all the fantastic recreation activities available in the New River Gorge, including hiking, whitewater rafting, fishing, rock climbing and much more.
Summersville Lake is known for being exceptionally clear and a favorite destination spot for SCUBA divers. Fishing, boating, and water skiing are also popular and there are three boat launching sites. Complete camping and picnic facilities are available along with concessions and pump out stations.
The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources monitors and maintains the fish and wildlife populations in the lake. Fish populations include smallmouth and largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, walleye, and channel fish, trout are stocked below the dam in the spring and fall.
Three miles west of the Summersville dam is the Carnifax Ferry Battlefield State park which preserves the Patterson House as an interpretive museam. An annual battle reenactment is held each fall.
